The Importance of Employee Recognition

More than ever, large companies are focusing on the culture and atmosphere of their workplace. Why? Findings show vast improvements to productivity and success by simply recognizing and appreciating workers. Employees are the backbone of a business. Motivating your force to try their hardest is the key to success.

A recent Tempkin Employee Engagement Study showed engaged employees are more than twice as likely to go the “extra mile” at work. These folks stay late, collaborate with colleagues and recommend organizational improvements.

Three Key Points:

  1. Have Their Back – Employees will treat clients with the same respect that you give them. So treat them with respect always.
  2. Connect With Them – Make yourself more accessible, and seek to understand their interests.
  3. Recognize Their Achievements – An honest, verbal “pat on the back” is better than any gift or award.

According to the (APA) American Psychological Association’s Employee Recognition Survey, working Americans who reported high levels of supervisor effectiveness in providing employee recognition and valuing the recognition they receive were more likely to say they plan to stay with their current employer three years or longer. Employees who received recognition more recently also reported higher levels of satisfaction, motivation and work effort.

*Bottom Line: Think of your employees just like you would a customer to gain loyal, driven workers that will help your business succeed beyond your wildest dreams.
